Try Online Ruler operates entirely on client-side web technologies (HTML5, JavaScript, and HTML Canvas). When you use our on-screen ruler, interactive 2D caliper box, mark crosshairs, or physical object presets:

  • No dimensional measurements, object sizes, coordinates, or inputs are ever transmitted to or stored on our web servers.
  • All math computations (converting pixels to centimeters, millimeters, and fractional inches based on screen PPI) are executed strictly in your local device browser's memory.
  • Once the webpage assets load in your browser, the tool can function without sending continuous telemetry.

2. LocalStorage & Cookie Usage

We do not use tracking cookies to identify individuals across the web. We utilize your browser’s standard localStorage solely to remember your preferred settings between sessions:

  • Theme Preference: Remembers your chosen theme (light or dark mode).
  • Calibrated Scale: Saves your confirmed display PPI (Pixels Per Inch) and selected hardware profile so you don't need to recalibrate on every visit.
  • Active Measurement Unit: Retains your last chosen unit (cm, mm, inch, or px).
  • Scale Edge Preferences: Remembers which ruler edges (top, bottom, left, right) you keep visible.

3. Camera & Hardware Sensor Permissions

Unlike augmented reality camera measurement apps, Try Online Ruler does not require, access, record, or stream your device's camera, microphone, or biometric sensors.

Measurements are performed by placing objects directly against the display surface or reading visual on-screen graduations. We will never prompt you for camera access permissions.

To keep Try Online Ruler 100% free for students, teachers, makers, and professionals worldwide, we display advertising served by third-party advertising networks, primarily Google AdSense. In accordance with Google Publisher Policies and industry privacy requirements, please note:
